Transportation Training and Safety

It is the mission of the Driver Training and Road Safety Department to maximize training and safety by setting and enforcing quality standards, through continual classroom and on the road training for all who transport children

School Bus Driver Training

New School Bus Drivers are required to attend classroom instruction on the following:

School Bus Paraprofessional Training

New School Bus Paraprofessionals are required to attend classroom instruction.  Paraprofessionals assist on buses for Special Education, regular education routes, field trips, excursions, and mid-day routes.  Paraprofessionals perform pre-trip and post trip inspections required for student transportation.  Paraprofessionals will receive a Special Needs training certificate by the Transportation Services Training Program.

First Aid CPR Training

First Aid CPR training is available to any DPS District employee who requires this certification.  The training is held monthly in the Transportation Training Facility.  It covers 1st Aid workplace and CPR knowledge and skills necessary to prevent, recognize, and provide basic care for injuries and sudden illnesses until advance medical personnel arrives and take over.  Recertification for 1st Aid is available every 3 years and CPR annually.

Multifunction School Activity Bus (MFSAB) Training

MFSAB is a part of the rental fleet available to District Schools and Departments.  Training is required to rent a vehicle and is available for coaches, teachers, or any staff who wishes to learn standard operating procedures to transport student to and from school events, competitions etc.

Buster the Bus Program

Transportation Services provides training and awareness for school age students on school bus safety programs that utilize Buster the Bus.  The program is between 30-45 minutes which are offered to ECE, Kindergarten, and 1st thru 3rd grade students.  Bilingual presentations are also available upon request.  The program teaches children how to safely walk to and from the bus, how to safely get on and off the bus how to be safe bus riders.

School Bus Traffic Safety (Loading and Unloading Signs)

Transportation Services Training Department is available to evaluate school bus loading and unloading zones.

Members of Transportation Services, the Department of Safety & Security, and the Traffic Engineering Department of Denver have entered into a cooperative committee to handle just these types of problems.  If you are in need of having your signs moved contact the Transportation Training Department at (720) 423-4634
