Free RTD Rides For Students

Starting in September, RTD will be offering free bus and train rides for students. It’s part of their new Zero Fare for Youth pilot program. This means students in the Denver metro area will be able to ride for free from 9/1/23 until 8/31/24.

To board the bus or train, students will need to show one of the following items:

  • Current school ID

  • Valid government-issued ID

  • Alien registration/permanent resident card

  • Military ID/dependent card with DOB

  • RTD-issued youth special discount card

August is already a free month for RTD, so students can ride without a ticket when school begins. Because of this, we will not be providing paper or virtual RTD tickets for the 23/24 school year.

Even though RTD is allowing students of all ages to ride for free, DPS strongly encourages elementary school and middle school students to ride with a parent or guardian.
